Vintage Stores in LA for Real Furs
one: Rose Bowl Flea Market in Pasadena
On the 2nd Sunday of every month, the faint of heart go to Perch for brunch while the treasure hunters head to Pasadena. You will have to dig, but if you strike gold your elbow grease will be worth it.
Pro Tips:
1. Barter you way into a quality steal.
2. If it smells funky, the hairs are too stiff and bristly, or there are pit stains on the inside, walk away!
3. Bring cash!
4. Take plenty of water and snacks (there are concessions... but they are overpriced and not organic lol)
TWO: Shareen in DTLA
This is like stepping inside a warehouse treasure box of tule with a touch of Lana del Rey.
No boys are allowed to cross the threshold as there are no dressing rooms and gals change in the middle of the store a la sorority house. So, buy your S.O. a Venti and prep him to wait in the shade outside.
Their rack of furs is not super extensive, but they are quality.
Pro tips:
1. Prices are not usually on the items and must be priced by the lead staff member at the checkout desk.
2. Bartering is shut down pretty quick (and can sometimes offend).
3. They have an EPIC sale a few times a year where they dump everything in the middle of the floor and it's highly discounted.
three: Polka Dots & Moonbeams on 3rd St in Mid City
This too is a hit or miss in terms of quantity of fur coats. However, everything there is very high quality, so if they don’t have it on tap it’s because it wasn’t worth your money.
This place is less about bartering and more about asking for a small discount on an item if you buy a whole outfit (or three)!
pro tips:
1. If you see the giant tutus hanging from the awning, you are in the right place.
2. Go to Joan's On Third after you shop and get the brie + chicken sandwich. You can thank me later.
3. Go to Magnolia Bakery after that and get a cupcake for dessert. It's famous and hales all the way from New York. V Carrie Bradshaw approved.
4. Their sister store a few doors down has modern clothes that are the boho-millennial version of this store - think For Love And Lemons, Jac Vanek T-shirts, etc.
